Hercules St, Surry Hills

Today I’m on Hercules St in Surry Hills to talk about
➥ the amazing Netflix series that was filmed right here last week
➥ including a star from the “Game of Thrones” series
➥ the amazing event at the Paramount House Hotel
➥ the stunning terraced house I sold recently for a record $4 million

G’day, Charles Touma here and today I’m on Hercules Street. A few weeks ago. I talked to you about the amazing ex-Hollywood actress, Doris Goddard, who poured her creativity into Hotel Hollywood on the corner of Foster and Hunt for so many years. Creativity is in the DNA of Surry Hills and I’m going to talk about two events that demonstrate this in spades. Now, you may have a seen a large gathering of people protesting here on Hercules with placards and chanting that appeared to be against Ronald Reagan and wondered what the hell was going on. Well, it turns out the protest was for the filming of a Netflix TV series, “Pieces of Her,” starring Toni Collette. The scene was a recreation of a Los Angeles protest in the 1980s.

Apparently the series was supposed to be filmed in Canada last year but COVID led the producers to come to Australia where they’ve already shot scenes in Camperdown, Newtown and the Blue Mountains. Joe Dempsie, who played the character Gendry Baratheon in the mega series “Game of Thrones” was spotted on set, apparently David Wenham and Colin Friels also star in the series, which is about a young woman caught up in a mass shooting. More Surry Hills artistry and drama will be on show at the Paramount House Hotel on Commonwealth Street next week. The Hotel will be hosting a pretty unique event that I thought deserved a mention. Apparently, the whole building is going to be taken over by an organisation called Semi-Permanent who run events around a vision for the future and an online lifestyle news publication called Highsnobiety. Now, these two sets of crazy cats are gonna plunder the Paramount Hotel and bring an event that combines music, fashion, cinema, art and design, as well as food. The hotel rooms and communal areas will be featuring a range of exhibitions, installations, a talks programme, live performances, movie screenings and food tasting by some very, very talented creative artists including movie director, Gia Coppola, the musician Flume, artist Jonathan Zawada, journalist Noelle Faulkner, as well as many more creative geniuses.

The event’s gonna take place on Wednesday and Thursday, May 26 and 27. Surry Hills is really the very heart of the creative side of Sydney. Now, I have been selling in Surry Hills for almost 20 years. One of my most recent sales is 118 Reservoir Street in Surry Hills, an unrenovated house that sold for $2.6 million. And we’ve just broken the record for a terrace home in Redfern, selling 84 Great Buckingham Street, Redfern for a whopping $4 million. I hope you enjoy the creativity of Surry Hills. I’m Charles Touma, my office on Thurlow Street is always open for you to come in and have a chat.
